Water Quantity in Texas

"When the well's dry, we know the worth of water."
Benjamin Franklin

Fresh water is one of the most valuable natural resources in the state of Texas. Agricultural, municipal, industrial, and environmental uses all compete for this scarce resouce.  With population predictions calling for a dramatic increase in the number of residents over the next 50 years, this competition between these uses will only become more intense. How we address the use, management and allocation of water will have dramatic impacts on the environment, the economy, and the quality of life for all Texans.

Water quantity issues in Texas, their problems and solutions, are divided into seven categories:

1. Trends in Water Use
2. Water Use Planning
3. Surface Water
4. Groundwater
5. Environmental Uses of Water
6. Supply and Demand Projections
7. Paying For the Cost of Future Water Demands
