Toxics Released to Surface Waters, 2001 (Pounds):
The total number of pounds of toxic chemicals and compounds released to surface waters from industries and utilities required to report to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1999 under the Toxics Release Inventory.

Number of State Wastewater Discharge Permits, 2002
Total Permitted Discharge (Millions of Gallons Per Day,):
These numbers represents the number of facilities in a county which had an active wastewater discharge permit from the TNRCC in FY 2002 as well as the total permitted flow. In some cases, the permitted flow is zero because the permit is a land-application no-discharge permit.

Number of Quality Impaired Surface Water Bodies, 2002
This number represents the number of impaired waterbodies in the county listed in TNRCC's listing of impaired waterbodies in 2002 through the Total Maximum Daily Load program, as submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Number of Acres of Agricultural Land Enrolled in the CRP:
The number of acres by county between 1987 and 2003 enrolled in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Conservation Reserve Program, which seeks to revitilize lands which have been subject to soil erosion.

The number of acres of private land enrolled in 2002 in USDA program to help landowners adopted conservation practices, such as  for manure, water irrigation and integrated pest management.

Number of Contaminated Voluntary Cleanup Program Sites, 2000:
The number of contaminated sites in October of 2000 which had applied to the TNRCC as part of the Voluntary Cleanup Program. Sites which applied but later withdrew the application are not included in the total.
